General
Information and House Regulations:
Ticket
Stubs:
ALWAYS retain your ticket stub. Your ticket
stub is essential should you need to leave the theatre
and wish to return. It also is your proof of
purchase.
Smoking:
NYC law
prohibits smoking
ANYWHERE within the Performing Arts Complex; patrons who
feel the need may
go outside the building during intermission.
Food/Drinks: No outside food
is
allowed to be brought into the Center.
Further, items purchased at our concessions booths may only be
consumed in the theatre's Grand Lobby. With the
exception of bottled water purchased at the concession
booth, food and
beverages are not allowed to be brought into the
theatre proper. Please understand we are dedicated
to keeping the facilities a comfortable, clean and beautiful place
for you to visit. We do appreciate your
understanding and cooperation.
Parcels and Bags: The Theatre
Management reserves the right to open and inspect personal
bags and knapsacks as a condition of entry to the theatre.
Our Security Personnel, at its sole discretion, may require
that some items not be allowed into the theatre.
Recordings, Use of Cameras: Now for some legal
stuff of which we have to advise you. No film cameras, video
cameras or recording devices of any kind and in any format
will be allowed into the theatre. Recording of the
performance, any preshow lectures or demonstrations,
whether image or sound or both, is strictly
prohibited and shall cause the revocation of the
ticket license without refund.
All
performances in our theatre complex are monitored for
unauthorized recording. By attending any event, you
agree not to bring any recording device into the
theatre. If you attempt to enter with a recording
device, you will be denied admission without a refund.
If you attempt to use a recording device, you consent to
your immediate removal from the theatre and forfeiture
of the device. Unauthorized recording may subject
you to criminal and civil liability.
Latecomers: are not admitted after the performance
has started, but will be seated at an appropriate time
during the performance which shall be determined by and at the discretion
of the artists. In the Walt Whitman theatre (only),
closed circuit displays are located
in Grand
Lobby so that latecomers can watch the
performance until Late Seating can commence, however
late seating is not guaranteed. Please allow
sufficient time for travel and parking.
Irritating, Patron-Disturbing Devices: Cell phones, beepers,
"i"s of any type, be they fones, pods, pads or
tunes as well as
wrist-watch alarms must all be
turned OFF during performances. It is easy to
forget this little nicety, but neglecting it can cause
an unnecessary and easily avoidable, distraction
for the patrons around you. Even setting them to
vibrate can ruin a quiet moment in a performance, as
will looking at the glowing screen to see who is
vibrating you!
Easy
rule-of thumb: avoid rude; avoid
uncivilized; avoid whole groups of people staring at
you as if you had just drowned a kitten. Please turn
these devices OFF in the Grand Lobby before you
enter the theatre.
Cell
Phone Reception: Cell phone reception is not guaranteed
within the theatre proper. Don't rely on cell
phone reception for emergencies. If you need to
contact the baby sitter or other emergency
communications, leave the theatre proper and make the
call in the Grand Lobby, nearer the outside
doors. This prevents disturbing other patrons and
insures your call won't be dropped because of poor
indoor reception. And as noted above, please observe
common courtesy and turn your cell phone OFF when you
return to the theatre.
Children
Except where noted,
Brooklyn Center performances are recommended for a
general audiences. However, as an advisory to adults who might
bring young people, we recommend paying particular
attention to any warnings within the event's description
panels in the Calendar of Events section on this site. Most motion pictures have
MPAA
ratings; live performances will carry general
advisories as to language or sexual content within the
description of the event, both in the program and here on the website. Where there may be adult
content, advisories are always posted at the Box Office
as well.
All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must
have a ticket except where events are listed as FREE.
However many FREE events may still require a ticket for
entry, and will be so noted. The event description here will always
indicate how to obtain the
free tickets.
Balloons:
During certain children's shows and especially during
graduations, vendors will sell balloons outside the
entrance
gates of the campus. Please DO NOT purchase balloons before the
show because they absolutely will NOT be allowed into the
theatre building; we will not hold balloons for you while you are in
the theatre. Only purchase balloons AFTER the performance
or graduation on the way out of the campus.
Doctors
Although
doctors can now rely on cell phones for emergencies, be
aware that our theatre construction has been known to
make cell reception intermittent at best. We strongly
suggest doctors honor that long-standing tradition of
leaving your name and seat location with the House
Manager before the show so that you can be reached in
case of an emergency.
Miscellaneous
Concessions:
Soft drinks, both diet and regular, as well as salt-free
Old Fashioned Seltzer and a variety of snacks especially
chosen for their gourmet appeal, are available at our concessions booths.
Also available is our superb specialty house blend of Columbian
coffee and Earl Gray tea.
Sorry,
except for our Poland Spring bottled water,
food and beverages may not be carried into the
theatre proper; there are standing tables dotting the
Grand Lobby to make consuming the delectable's a
comfortable experience. Please help us keep our
theatres clean by observing the food and beverage restriction
to only the theatre's Grand Lobby.
Restrooms:
For your convenience, restrooms are located on the main
floor of each of the theatres. In the Walt Whitman
Theatre, the main restrooms are located on the basement,
mezzanine and balcony levels. Handicap-Only
Restrooms which are reserved for handicap use, are
located in Whitman's Grand Lobby.
Leaving the Theatre:
Regulations regarding a patron leaving the theatre with
the intention of returning, even with a ticket stub, will
vary from engagement to engagement. Usually this can
be arranged, but for many shows it will not be permitted
due to security considerations. It is recommended
that should you anticipate the need to leave the theatre,
let the House Manager or one of the house staff know.
You will be informed if this is possible and by what
procedure. Naturally in an emergency you can leave
at any time, but in some instances your re-admittance may
not be guaranteed.

Substantial discounts are offered for groups and
fund-raisers.
