The country has gone bananas over the hit TV show American Idol. It's not at all surprising that a movie spoof by veteran comic genius Paul Weitz who gave us the hilarious AMERICAN PIE, ABOUT A BOY and IN GOOD COMPANY, comes this wild irreverent look at what has now turned into a cultural phenomenon -- the "I wanna be a Superstar" dream.
With Dennis Quaid cast as the President of the United States and Willem Dafoe as
the Vice President and Hugh Grant as the maniacal host of the talent show, you know this is going to be one side-splitting romp. Opens everywhere on April 21st

For those who did not live through the abuse of power that was so devastating to American core values that it became known as the McCarthy Era, there is no better way to understand how important a free press is and how lucky we were to have the journalists at that time in history who were not just pretty faces to anchor the news, but men with the courage and bravery to confront a bully -- a bully who welded the power of the government to terrorize its own people. "We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home," is just one of the powerful lines the legendary Edward R. Murrow used against the tyranny that was Joseph McCarthy. He and his staff did this while risking their careers as well as the security of the entire CBS News organization.
George Clooney wrote and directed this incredible piece of filmmaking which itself has the same
near-noir, pseudo-documentary feel as CITIZEN KANE, with it's moody black and white photography and deep shadows contrasting bright glaring foregrounds, so symbolic of shining the light of truth in the murky lies and threats of McCarthy's Constitution-be-damned power-mongering.
The mood is heightened by the soulful songs of the sultry jazz vocals of Grammy-winner Dianne Reeves which Clooney picked and most of which were recorded especially for the film..
Special effects that combine actual new footage of McCarthy with the live action adds to the very powerful impact that creates the feeling that we are watching this drama unfolding moment by moment.
