Brooklyn Center
Cinema
and the
Jane Austen Society of North America
present
A Special CinEvent on the
Giant Screen!

Jane Austen's
Persuasion
Starring Amanda Root and
Ciarán Hinds
From Jane Austen's last work, comes this intelligent,
passionate translation to the motion picture screen.
Originally produced by the BBC in Britain, the film
received such critical acclaim that it was released in
the USA as a full theatrical engagement. Roger Michell
has assembled a cast that is so perfectly suited for
their roles that one can't imagine anyone else playing
Austen's beautifully rounded characters. The
period is meticulously reconstructed and we are swept
there naturally and without pretension. Persuasion
stars Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds, with Fiona Shaw,
Sophie Thompson, Judy Cornwell and Emma Roberts. It will
be presented in Wide Screen Dimension. This is a
Dolby SR Soundtrack and will be presented in 6 Channel
Total Surround MegaSound. Released thru New Yorker
Films.
A special thanks to the Jane Austen Society of North
America for conceiving this project, to Ciarán Hinds for
his generous participation in this CinEvent and to
Professor Foster Hirsch for his help and encouragement
in bringing these rarely seen films to the screen.

A Special CinEvent on the
Giant Screen!
Denzel
Washington's
The Great Debaters
Starring Denzel Washington and
Forest Whitaker
A powerful drama

discussion and Q&A that will center around the film's
historical and social context.

The Brooklyn College
Theater Department presents
A MainStage Presentation

Take Me Out
A MainStage Production
directed by
Rose Bernett Bonczek
From the
2002 hit Broadway run, Take Me Out is
Richard Greenberg’s
insightful and provocative critique of one
social issue above which we still seem not to be
able to rise -- prejudice toward certain sexual
orientations. Greenberg explores all the
ramifications and multifaceted nature of the
many intertwining, deeply related issues --
homophobia, male bonding, religious devotion,
masculinity, friendship and the impact "coming
out" about one's sexual orientation can have on
everything from casual relationships to family
bonds and even to the multimillion dollar sports
business.
This is a
fascinating and often humorous, but deadly
serious insight into society's inability to deal
with minority sexual orientation with dignity
for all individuals.
Warning Advisory
