The Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance in KeySpan Park in
Coney Island stands as a graceful and beautiful tribute
to those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September
11th, 2001. A 30 x 12 foot granite wall, this memorial
contains the laser-engraved images of one hundred and
thirty seven firefighters, eleven NYC Police
Officers and seven Port Authority Officers. Their
portraits on the wall form a powerful, unforgettable testament to
their courage and bravery; nowhere is there a more eloquent
testimony to them than this memorial here in Brooklyn.
Emmy award-winner and
CSI: New York, Forest Gump and Apollo 13
star, Gary Sinise has been a key supporter of the
memorial and this concert will be dedicated to these
brave men who gave their lives, as well as to act as a
unifying force to help New
Yorkers come together to complete the Wall of
Remembrance.
The Lieutenant Dan Band was founded by Kimo Williams and Gary
Sinise in 2003 and takes its named from the character
Lieutenant Dan Taylor, whom Sinise portrayed in the film
Forrest Gump. Sinise in know by sight by many people as
"Lieutenant Dan" rather than by his given name.
Since its inception in 2003, the
band has been performing for
charities and non-profit organizations including
Operation Iraqi Children and the USO, at military bases
in the United States and overseas.
This memorial concert,
hosted by Ken Dashow, will include a pre-show featuring
a Comedy
Hour, USO entertainers and the famed Bagpipers of the
FDNY, the NYPD and the PAPD. Indeed this will be a
concert of exceptional talent and an evening of
top-notch entertainment, but beyond that, it will be a
way to remind New Yorkers and especially Brooklynites,
that we
promised we would never forget; this will help us keep
that promise.
