Directed by Ekysa Marden
A Mainstage Production
In this poignant,
timely and spare adaptation of Euripides’
classic play, the women of Troy watch their
city burn to the ground while awaiting their
fate as exiles, and as Greek slaves.
McLaughlin developed The Trojan Women with
the Balkan Theater Project in the 1990s,
working with non-pro Serb, Croatian and
Bosnian Muslim war refugees who had landed
as actors in New York City. The play is a
poetic and stark examination of the costs of
war as witnessed by our contemporaries
through the lens of a great classic
masterpiece. The Trojan Women challenged the
Athenian audience of 5th century BC to
reconsider the costs of war and it continues
to do so today.
