The Brooklyn College Theater Department Presents
Tracy Scott Wilson's
The Story
Directed by Wayne Maugans
A Thesis Production
This is a compelling story about journalistic ethics set
in the offices of a newspaper in a large
city. It is inspired by real-life events and
is based on the Janet Cook scandal at the
Washington Post in 1981 where Cook a black
reporter, won the Pulitzer Prize for her
story about an inner city black child; it
was later discovered by her editor that her
story was fabricated.
The intergenerational struggle between the
editor and his fraudulent reporter and the
ramifications of exposing the fraud
introduces the audience to the many layers
that Wilson has woven into the fabric of
this play. The tension and drama build
between the editor, Yvonne and her white
lover built to a brilliant crescendo and
final act.
Theatre at its best.
